Jason meets local MP

A welcome and informative visit from our local MP - Priti Patel. Skillsarena Managing Director Jason Pierce and Priti met and discussed a multitude of subjects including the current market, local business, government initiatives and most importantly the Job Market.

Discussions on unemployment and the need and capability of government organisations to help those not in employment get back to work. Cuts to the services tasked with this currently are understandable in the climate, but they cant be lost altogether. They must be replaced quickly, with a more cost effective solution.

The solution must however look to include mechanisms to identify the skills each candidate has, the transferable skills, profiling and most importantly, the presentation of this information to the potential employers. Without this, the best candidates wont even get in the door.

At worst you have many candidates just applying for jobs they think they can do or want to do but are just not suited to or will enjoy. They are then back on the market in 3 - 6 months. At Skillsarena we talk to candidates about some positions that they had not even considered. In most cases this is due to not having had exposure, the opportunity or confidence to apply.

Discussions also around business confidence and growth plans. The only way to stimulate jobs.
